A Message from the Conference Chairman
Even recessions have trends. In the Dotcom boom and bust in the early part of this decade we noted how innovation went on, whatever happened to traditional media and investors. In the 2008-10 recession we see the same, only more so! As we move into a new era of growth, we see that the attack on traditional market models in newspaper, magazine and directory publishing is widening, and now takes in film, books and broadcast media like television. And the developments in community and search of the last decade now move forward again, as Facebook overtakes Google and Apple, Amazon and others create a new order in content aggregation and distribution. Meanwhile, Silicon Valley lives again, only in Bangalore or Hyderabad.
The EPublishing Innovation Forum once again took the temperature of change through interview, presentation, discussion and debate. Featured areas included:
- Whatever is happening to B2B , as workflow and content integration reposition publishers and change completely their relationship with their users?
- Can you re-invent advertising in the network as lead gen, or sponsorship, or opinion former adoption in the social network?
- In the global education crisis, what are the winning techniques for digital learning?
- Has the eBook succeeded - or failed – and did Apple buy the market after all?
- The future is mobile and device-driven, and what are the content community doing about it?
- Science and medicine are used to leading the way in the digital world, so why have they been overtaken?
Speakers from every sector argued and compared, but one issue all agreed upon – the rate of innovation just gets quicker.
